Research Interests
Dr. John A. Copeland is Director of the Communications
Systems Center (CSC) which is part of the School of Electrical and Computer
Engineering at Georgia
Tech.
Present projects
- Wireless Networking - Security (host id, fraud
prevention, authentication, rogue AP detection) .
- Wireless Networking - Quality of Service
enhancements (TCP flow control and MAC fragmentation).
- Network Security - Vizualization techniques, honeynets,
anomaly detection.
Past projects include:
- The first multi-building optical fibre network at Georgia
Tech (1994, OC-3, ATM)
- Hitachi Telecom (USA)
sponsored "IP Over ATM Networks" project, including a study of
Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) in cooperation with
Cisco Systems in Research Triangle Park, NC.
- the internal network for the GCATT Building, and the
Extended Experimental Network (XXNet).
- a National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsored vBNS Project
(very-high speed Broadband Network System),
- hosting the Georgia Network Technology Forum for State
employees,
- contributing to a Backbone Network Strategic Plan for the
State of Georgia
- improved techniques for multicasting multimedia content over
satellite channels (PathFire,
Inc.).
- Digital two-way broadband CATV system technology.
Cisco/ScientificAtlanta
sponsored research on applications, management, and
communications issues.
